Ancestral Homes

Castles and manor houses known to be the home of families with the surnames IRVING and FOSTER (with various spellings) in the UK.

IRVING originated in Scotland with lands in southwest Scotland on the border with England. FOSTER ancestors came to England with William the Conquer (1066) and were rewarded lands in north-east England and south-east Scotland. Both families were locally important strong land owners in their time, but no longer.

We have not been able to make a genealogical connection to any ancestor who lived in these places - someday maybe. DNA testing shows a strong possibility of being related to some unknown Irving ancestor who lived in the Bonshaw area around the 14th century.
