218 | Daniel Knight was the founder of this family in Boothbay. He evidently came from Mass., from about Newburyport or Salem. the evidence is not clear but he is believed to be descended from John Knight, who, with his brother Richard, came to Newbury, MA from Romsey, england in June of 1635. If this is correct the ancestral line would be: 1. John Knight b England 159?, d 1670; 2. John Knight Jr b in England 1622 d 1678; 3. Benjamin Knight b 1668; 4. Benjamin Knight Jr b 1693. The Boothbay settler was probably son of Benjamin Jr. He lived on Damariscove until the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, when he vacated the island and went to Pleasant Cove, on the farm owned by the late Daniel Dodge. His will was made Jan 10, 1780 and Probated Apr 5, 1780. Nominally, he was the wealthiest man in his locality, but some allowance must be made for the fact that the date of 1780, the Continental Currency was a low point in value; but he was a man of considerable property for the times. | Knight, Daniel (I127)
