  • Notes
    • Pilgrim religious leader, sailed to America on ship Mayflower in 1620

The passenger list for the Mayflower includes:
      Brewster, William
      Brewster Mary, wife
      Brewster Love, son
      Brewster Wrestling, son

His son, Jonathan, arrived at Plymouth, MA on the ship Fortune in 1621. Two daughters (Patience and Fear) sailed later on the ship "Anne" arriving in 1623.

One un-named child of William and Mary born and died about 1609 at Leiden, Holland

William joined the Separatists (Puritan) religious group who were critical of the Church of England, while at Cambridge University. William was the only member of the Plymouth Colony who attended university. He returned, from Cambridge, to Scrooby and lead a Puritan congregation. He lead the group to Holland in about 1608. In 1620 they decided to emigrate to America on two ships Mayflower and Speedwell via England. The Speedwell was not sea worthy and had to return to England. A small company of settlers who could fit on the Mayflower (including William) had to endure until the rest of the Puritans could get to America on other ships.

William is often refered to as Elder (or Deacon) Brewster.
