614 | Pilgrim religious leader, sailed to America on ship Mayflower in 1620 The passenger list for the Mayflower includes: Brewster, William Brewster Mary, wife Brewster Love, son Brewster Wrestling, son His son, Jonathan, arrived at Plymouth, MA on the ship Fortune in 1621. Two daughters (Patience and Fear) sailed later on the ship "Anne" arriving in 1623. One un-named child of William and Mary born and died about 1609 at Leiden, Holland William joined the Separatists (Puritan) religious group who were critical of the Church of England, while at Cambridge University. William was the only member of the Plymouth Colony who attended university. He returned, from Cambridge, to Scrooby and lead a Puritan congregation. He lead the group to Holland in about 1608. In 1620 they decided to emigrate to America on two ships Mayflower and Speedwell via England. The Speedwell was not sea worthy and had to return to England. A small company of settlers who could fit on the Mayflower (including William) had to endure until the rest of the Puritans could get to America on other ships. William is often refered to as Elder (or Deacon) Brewster. | Brewster, Elder William (I771)

640 | QUESTIONABLE: The place of birth for John (other than somewhere in England) and who his parents were has not been discovered. Considerable research into John's origins has produced a number of theories, but no proof. John Foster is believed to have been in Roger Conant's company which coming from Nantasket (now Hull MA), settled and established Naumkeag, now Salem MA, in 1628. BIRTH: In an affidavit dated 1670, John states he is fifty-two years old and was born in England. This fixes his year of birth at 1618. If he was with Roger Conant in 1628, he would have been only 10 years old. Unlikely, but not impossible. Refer to F. C. Pierce's book Foster Genealogy for information on John Foster. Starting on page 694 that book includes records of Deeds and Wills. John was a farmer and may have also been a carpenter and/or stone mason. He deeded his land to John Foster Jr 1674. (From the book Boston and Eastern Massachusetts.) The text from Savage's "Genealogical Dictionary of the Settlers of New England" states: JOHN, Salem, had there bapt. Mary, 24 Mar. 1650 ; Samuel, 7 Mar. 1652; and John, 3 June 1655; and by w. Martha had Benjamin, b. 3 July 1658; Jonathan, 20 Dec. 1660, d. in few mos.; Jonathan, again, 22 Nov. 1662; d. young; David, 16 Oct. 1665; Elizabeth 22 Nov. 1667; and Ebenezer, 5 Aug. 1677; was freeman. 1682." From the statement "by w. Martha ..." one could infer that Martha is not the mother of the first three children implying John had an earlier wife; or it might just mean that the mother's name was not recorded in the earlier records (not unusual). There is ongoing dispute about the order of birth of John's children. John Sr. died as a result of a shooting accident while hunting. He was shot by Joseph Small. | Foster, John Sr. (I469)

647 | Refer to Pierce's Foster Genealogy page 485. Following information from George Foster of Washington State. Rev Thomas Foster, born in 1570 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Rev Thomas died on 24 Nov 1636 in Ipswich, England. He had 9 children, Sarah, Jane, Elizabeth, Thomas, William, Eleazor, James, Richard, and Benjamin. Sarah was born in 1592 and Benjamin was born in 1614. I believe that Thomas was born in 1600 and William was born is 1601. Thomas and William came on the Hercules in 1634 and settled in Boston and Ipswich, MA respectively. The mother was most likely Rose, not Abigail Wimes as stated in Foster Genealogy, by Frederick Clifton Pierce. | Foster, Rev. Thomas (I1135)

648 | Refer to Pierce's Foster Genealogy page 486. However, we believe Pierce has the wrong parents for this Richard. Estate Administration in Prerogative Court of Canterbury 3 May 1630. He died Intestate (without a will) and the care of his minor children was assigned to his brother-in-law (John Bigge). The children named were: Mary, John, and Hopestill. relic (widow) Patience renounced the court findings. Richard and Patience had two male children named John both died young (before 1630). There is no baptism record in Biddenden for a third son John. However, Richard's brother Thomas had a son John (b. 1610) and Thomas died in 1626. SPECULATION: It is possible that Thomas' son John was taken in by Richard - thus there would be a minor child John in Richard's household when Richard died in 1630. | Foster, Richard (I1113)

649 | Refer to the book "The Seelys of New Brunswick" page 20 for husbands (HEATH and MASON) and children of Mary. Mary (maiden name unknown) was twice widowed, She married first William Heath by whom she bore seven children he died in 1620. She married second Walter Mason in 1621, they had at least three children. By the time of her marriage in 1626 to Robert Seely she had buried two husbands and at least ten children. She had no surviving children at the time of this marriage. From the numerous burials recorded in the church records during this time it is obvious the plague was destroying many families. | Mason, Mary Heath (I542)
